Tips For Buying Used Golf Carts

Golf Carts

We all know that golf is an expensive sport. If you want to be able to play it for the majority of the year, or ever year round in some regions, then your wallet is going to be hit pretty hard. These are sacrifices many of us make because of our deep passion for the game. We’re willing to give up some of life’s other luxuries in order to have a chance to make one more birdie, or to beat our previous best score.

There are ways to reduce the cost of golf. These can range from finding discount golf equipment, items that are on sale, playing on courses that don’t charge as much, etc. If you happen to be one of those people who require or want a golf cart in order to maximize your potential and enjoyment of the game, then used golf carts might be something to consider.

Golf carts are important because they can help you shave strokes from your game. If you’re constantly lugging a heavy golf bag around the course, your body is going to suffer from fatigue. If you’re pulling a cart, then the arm you’re pulling with will suffer from fatigue. The only way to really keep your body in tip-top shape, which will lead to a more natural swing, is to use a golf cart. And if you’d like to save money doing it, you should look at a used golf cart before considering a new one. Not only will you be saving money, but there are ways to get golf carts that are like new for a fraction of the price of a new one.

What Types Of Golf Carts Are There?

There are two types of golf carts, which are electrical and gas powered. There are people that believe strongly in one versus the other; however, they both have their positives and negatives. It’s not really that one is better than the other. It’s about which is a better option for you.

If you’re looking to buy used golf carts for sale, then used electrical golf carts might be a better option for you. The reason for this is that most country clubs and private golf courses look to upgrade their fleet of golf carts every few years or so. Those carts are almost always electrical golf carts. This leads to the electrical golf carts flooding the market, which often reduces their prices. On the other hand, this increases the prices for used gas golf carts because they’re harder to find. If you really need a gas golf car, it might be better to check out new carts first.

Regardless of what type of used golf cart you choose to buy, it’s always a good idea to narrow your search down to a couple of particular carts and then go test drive them. When you test drive these used golf carts, make sure you pay attention to how they drive up and down hills, with extra weight added to the cart (people or equipment), and that you check for rust. You should also ask the seller if there are any repaired or replaced parts. A final note to keep in mind is that if you’re looking to buy a used golf cart for under $2000, be very careful. These carts often come with a lot of problems. That’s not to say there aren’t good carts out there for under $2000. There most definitely are, but it’s just a cautionary note that you should do as much research and investigation on the cart prior to purchasing. It will most likely save you a lot of headaches down the road, especially considering these carts often don’t come with a warranty.

It will depend on how much you’re looking to spend. As stated above, anything that sells for under $2000 might be high risk. These carts are usually over ten years old and have no warranty. If you choose to go up a little bit in price, say between $2000 and $2500, you will be a get a little bit of a better deal. Most of these carts will be between seven and ten years old and have a thirty day warranty.

If you bump it up to the $2500 to $3000 range, you will often be talking about a cart that is about five years old, give or take a year or two. At this price, you should be looking for everything to be in good condition and for a thirty day warranty. At $3000 to $3500, you should expect a fully serviced golf cart where everything can almost pass for new and a six to twelve month warranty.
Another option is to buy a refurbished cart. This is how you get a cart that is practically new, but for a fraction of the price. These used golf carts will range in age, but should always have new bodies, tires, and parts. You should also look for a six month warranty.

I’m Looking Into Used Electric Golf Carts. Can You Tell Me More About What To Expect?

We’ll start on the cheap end again and work our way up. If you’re looking for an electric used golf car that sells for under $2000, then you shouldn’t expect much. You will most likely be getting an old battery without much life left in it. However, if you bump up the price just a little, to about the $2000 to $2500 range, then you should be able to find a cart that has been serviced and will have new batteries. You should also make sure you’re getting a thirty day warranty.

At $2500 to $3000, not only should you get new batteries and a thirty day warranty, but you should expect the cart to be in very good condition. This includes drive train, tires, seats, etc. For $3000 to $3500, you should expect a cart that is only a few years old, has new batteries, is fully serviced and is in excellent condition, and comes with a six to twelve month warranty.

If you go the refurbished route, you should expect to receive everything that is listed on the used gas golf cart option, with the only difference being that you will get brand new batteries.

Whether you choose to go with a used electric golf cart or used gas golf cart, hopefully this information will at least help put you on the right track. Referring to the list above could end up saving you some money and prevent you from making a costly error. Good luck.
